Ambedkar Jayanti are celebrated country-wide to commemorate the contributions of Babasaheb Bhim Rao Ramji Ambedkar to India as a social reformer. Jayanti is celebrated every year on the 14th of April. The date marks the birthday of Dr BR Ambedkar. Bhim Jayanti was first celebrated by Janardan Sadashiv Ranapisay, one of BR Ambedkar’s followers, in Pune in 1928. Like Dr Ambedkar, he was also a social activist. Ever since then, the day has been celebrated as the Dr Ambedkar Jayanti. The day is also observed as a public holiday in 25 Indian states. Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti is celebrated on April 14 every year to honour the contributions of Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar towards equal rights for all. Janardan Sadashiv Ranapisay started the tradition of celebrating the birthday to commemorate Dr BR Ambedkar. He was a social activist, like Dr BR Ambedkar and one of his advent followers. Dr. BR Ambedkar drafted the Indian Constitution which was accepted by the constituent Aseembly on November 26. He inspired people to put in more effort and grow their industrial and agricultural businesses. He also encouraged others to advance public health and education. He contributed significantly to the formation of the Reserve Bank of India, which is today known as the Central Bank of India. After India was freed from British rule on August 15, 1947, he had agreed to serve as the country’s first law minister after accepting an invitation from the Congress Administration.
